A home-grown bakery which claims to be "the best bakery in Essex" will be moving to Chelmsford next month. The owners of Flour and Spoon who have operated out of Leigh-on-Sea since 2018 will be moving up to mid Essex from September.

The bakery has established two venues in Leigh and Eastwood in the Southend borough, beginning their journey in 2018 with their first store, baking everything from fresh bread loaves to artisan cakes, butters and cheeses, along with coffees. Now, the owners have said with the lease expiring on their Leigh premises, they will be opening a new store in Baddow Road in Chelmsford.

The new bakery is set to open at some point in September, though a firm date has not yet been confirmed. Posting on their Instagram page, the Flour and Spoon said: "It’s been a great 5 years since we opened in 2018 watching the business develop and grow, being part of the community and making wonderful friends along the way!

"It hasn’t been easy at all, but we have learnt a lot and firmly made Flour and Spoon officially the best bakery in Essex. From one little shop, we now have a thriving wholesale business reaching far and wide all over Essex, a popular baking school and two shops selling our award-winning Essex Sourdough & German Rye and many more!"

The new venue is a 17th-century timber framed building painted pink on the outside. The owners said it would be the "perfect" location for artisan baking and patisseries and said they would announce an opening date on their social channels in the near future.

They added: "In the meantime, Please don’t forget to come and see us all in our shop at 134 Eastwood Road North at the top of Elmsleigh Drive where we will be offering all of what was enjoyed here and more! An exciting seasonal menu, pizza nights and not forgetting our artisan bread and patisserie to name a few.

"We would all at Flour and Spoon like to thank everyone who made this shop possible and thank you to everyone who has supported us. Not a goodbye but see you soon in Eastwood or Chelmsford!" The opening times for the new Chelmsford bakery will be 7am to 3pm Thursday to Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sundays.

The company are recruiting various new roles for the Chelmsford venue, including a barista, baker, team leader, chef and weekend staff.
