LAPD officers shoot man armed with knife in Highland Park

Los Angeles Police Department officers shot a man armed with a knife who reportedly said he was planning on hurting someone on Saturday in Highland Park.
Police were called to the area at around 12:25 p.m., near York Boulevard and Avenue 56, for reports of a man armed with a gun.
"Upon arrival, the officers encountered the suspect in a stairwell who was advancing towards them armed with a large knife," said LAPD. It was then that they opened fire.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a nearby hospital. He is said to be in stable condition and is expected to survive.
His identity was not revealed, but police noted he was 51-years-old.

The area near York Boulevard and Avenue 56 will be "impacted for several hours" by the investigation, according to the department.
With SkyCal overhead, a large police presence could be seen, with multiple buildings blocked off by crime scene tape as investigators surveyed the area, which included several buildings and a parking lot.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
